Mwen te chwazi yon “Mereng” olye de yon rit nan mizik vodou pou jisteman te pèmèt tout Ayisyen mete tèt yo ansanm e chante mizik sa. Anpil Ayiysen pa konprann wòl yon atis vre. Se pou sa, genyen de atis se lè yo fin mouri e apre menm dè zane, jenerasyon ki vin apre ap dekouvri atis sa yo. Jodiya, se ak anpil fyète m ap fè nou tande mizik sa.

Mereng Damou Pou Ayiti

Le peuple Haïtien n’a pas pu célébrer le bicentenaire de l’indépendance de la République d’Haïti. De toute façon, j’avais pris l’initiative d’écrire une chanson à cette grande occasion. J’ai choisi la “mérengue” comme rythme et non l’un parmi des rythmes vodou, justement pour permettre au peuple entier de chanter cette chanson patriotique en une seule voix. La majorité de mes compatriotes ne comprennent pas vraiment le rôle d’un artiste. Aussi, les œuvres de certains de ces artistes sont découvertes parfois des décennies après leur mort. Aujourd’hui, je vous invite d’écouter cette chanson avec beaucoup de fierté.

Mereng Damou Pou Ayiti

The Haitian people did not celebrate the bicentennial of the Independence of the Republic of Haiti. In any case, I have written a song for this epic event. I have chosen the “Merengue” beat instead of any other voodoo beat in order to allow Haitians of every faith to come together and sing this patriotic song. The majority of my fellow Haitians do not understand the role an artist does play in a society. So, the works of several artists are discovered years after their death. But, today, I invite with great pride to listen to this song.
