J’ai été toujours fasciné par la richesse et la diversité de notre musique. Aussi, ma grande passion de l’explorer m’a toujours permis de puiser dans une source vraiment inépuisable.

Diskolo: une fusion de la musique “siwèl”, vodou et du rara qui suggère fortement l’ambiance de nos “bandes à pied” qu’on pourra retrouver maintenant dans les clubs.

Mon dernier album EP vous offre six chansons de réjouissances épicées de nos traditions musicales fièrement gardées par nos paysans et les masses haïtiennes.

Je crois qu’il serait bon, et je trouve que c’est très beau, d’interpréter des chansons populaires de nos prédécesseurs et de les adapter à partir de nos propres sentiments, émotions et aussi de notre personnelle expérience musicale. La chanson “Cité du Cap-Haïtien” composée par le feu maestro Ultrick Pierre-Louis de l’orchestre Septentrional, est considérée comme l’hymne du Cap-Haïtien, ma ville natale. Aussi, c’est avec une très grande fierté que j’ai arrangé cette merveilleuse composition pour un orchestre philharmonique à l’occasion du 350ème anniversaire de cette belle ville dont l’histoire a marqué le destin de la République d’Haïti, notre merveilleux pays.

Si le présent nous accable, que ce soit donc pour un futur digne de notre glorieux passé!

Yep! For four years, from 1990 to 1994, I have approached this genre within the spectrum of Haitian music. It is a fusion of voodoo rhythms and Jazz from the improvisational aspect of the latter. The name of the band then was “Gifrants, Sanba Daki” and I had the privilege to have the collaboration of extremely talented musicians such as: Jimmy Daniel on drums, Jean-Baptiste “Bonga” Gaston on percussion, Jacqz Vincent on keys, Carol Chaikin on flute, soprano and tenor sax, Steve…. (He played with Little Richard for some time) and I was the singer and the guitarist.

This genre was “hot”. We have recorded one of our rehearsals and sent to Larry Brown of SOB’s and to Nell’s. We did have a gig at both places which was pretty amazing at that time. Here are two tracks of live recording at “La Chaumière” in Queens, NY.
