"We are coming from a different cultural background where the ways of life are different from the modern and western world. We spoke French Creole, and it derives mostly from French, but also from Spanish, English, Portuguese and a few Chinese words such yin and yang *. We have embraced the belief, philosophy, wisdom, traditions and customs of the peasants, our brothers and sisters. Most of our translations are not literal translations since the double talk is commonly used among them. We shall try our best to translate our lyrics in a way our readers can relate to our story lines."

*After our Independence from the French in 1804, Haiti was divided for a short period of time in two countries—a monarchy in its northern part where we are from, and a republic in the south. King Henry the First did hire a few Chinese engineers in order to build his arsenal—canons, bullets and guns--and be ready to defend his kingdom in case the French would have decided to come back. A few Chinese words did slip into our Creole vocabulary."
